Prologue: The chicken or the egg?

This is unequivocally the most important thing I’ve ever written. Many will find the livestreamed discussion with fellow DRASTIC member Dr. J. Couey very helpful for clarity on some details; it also covers more supporting evidence.

My findings and conclusions are based on several thousand hours of research. The implications are profound, and profoundly disturbing. I’ve written them here, now, because the evidence has become so overwhelming that I can’t, in good conscience, withhold these conclusions from the public.

Without hesitation, I would testify under oath to the veracity of the evidence in support of them; a significant portion of the COVID-origin evidence compiled by Congress, or provided to various Congressional committees in sworn testimony, comes from the efforts of DRASTIC or other scientists with whom we’ve worked.

In his 1986 book The Blind Watchmaker, the evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins made an evolutionary case for the emergence of complex life by contrasting that process with the earlier ‘Watchmaker’ argument in favor of creationism. In its original form, the idea was that the existence of a watch logically implies the existence of a watchmaker capable of creating such an intricate device. Dawkins argued that the apparent intricacy of evolution [a natural process] is a result of countless generations of random mutations guided by natural selection.

In its own way, the origin of SARS-CoV-2 [the virus that causes the disease COVID-19] is a modern-day example of this argument - one whose answer may have enormous implications. In this latest version, the scientists who’ve claimed that the virus naturally jumped from an animal to humans [zoonosis] are following the blind watchmaker logic, while engaging in such unprecedented gaslighting that actual evidence has become impossible to see through the smoke.

The intensity of the campaign to smother the lab-leak hypothesis for COVID-19 has always seemed out of proportion to the evidence that points to either possibility, but the strength of the assertions from the global experts on coronavirology & microbiology quickly established the appearance of an authoritative consensus. The majority of my research has been focused on compiling and laying out the evidence that shows how Anthony Fauci & others manufactured that consensus, and used censorship to prevent the public from learning of their activities.

The majority of readers are likely aware that this blog, Prometheus Shrugged, is primarily a chronicle of the investigation I’ve been actively participating in as a member of the DRASTIC group of scientists & researchers, dedicated to uncovering the truth of the pandemic’s origin [until that job is done, at least]. My 1st article on Substack, from 2/25/21, introduced my discovery that Dr. Fauci had been involved in the effort to push a natural-origin narrative; a year later, that censorship is just one facet of the broader story.

The Myth of the Blind Watchmaker

An unexpected discovery & the birth of the COVID-19 pandemic

This brief commentary has been placed on ResearchGate to serve as a record for posterity, in order to begin raising awareness about the conclusions it contains. A fuller and more formal analysis will ultimately replace it; it was not originally written for a general audience, but as a rapid update for scientists, and I wanted to get it out as quickly as possible. I apologize in advance for breaking standard blog etiquette.

An Abstract in 4 Key Points:

-Dr. Fauci and a few other senior scientists knew instantly that the discovery of HIV spike inserts within the SAR-CoV-2 viral genome made it almost impossible for the virus to be natural.

-They knew about the Furin cleavage site [FCS], the single biggest genomic contributor to SARS-CoV-2’s ability to become a pandemic virus, yet didn’t share that information with the rest of the world.

- They suppressed early treatments that were already available – including the very fusion inhibitors implicated by the existence of the HIV inserts – even after a pioneer in the field recommended their use so early in the outbreak.

-Much of what has been done to combat the pandemic – especially here in the United States – has been the opposite of what would’ve been recommended, had all of the information been publicly known in early 2020.

-It’s Time to Rip Off the BAND-AID-

I know why Dr. Fauci was so unsettled by the Indian paper. Pradhan et al had found the HIV inserts, but they didn't know why they'd be there. Arkmedic felt that the inserts were tied to an antidote, but we knew that there were still missing pieces.

Here are some basic implications of what’s been found:

-Dr. Fauci panicked when the HIV inserts were announced, because he knew they proved 'intelligent design'

-Dr. Fauci suppressed fusion inhibitors, despite knowing their early-treatment potential

-This was done despite the fact that Gallaher had invented this niche of therapeutics for CoV's

-By suppressing this info about the inserts - and about the FCS - Dr. Fauci kept medical professionals in the dark about how infectious the virus was, and how dangerous the potential long-term effects on the immune system might be

-The Chinese had even begun producing an aerosol form of newer forms of inhibitors, EK1 & EK1C4, which could offset the added danger of the Furin cleavage site to the lungs. 

-Dr. Fauci did the opposite - further suppressing hydroxychloroquine, which could've also provided protection for the lungs when taken prophylactically [per J. Couey via GVB].

-Instead, Dr. Fauci took a slew of actions which simply insured that the pandemic would be even more devastating. 

-The Blind Watchmaker-

Bill Gallaher is the missing piece. I knew there was more to his story, because of his publication of https://virological.org/t/analysis-of-wuhan-coronavirus-deja-vu/357/3 on 1/31/20. He'd already announced the FCS & friends:

How had a 75 year-old semi-retired scientist written an 80-page book on SARS-CoV-2's spike characteristics - including the FCS - before anyone else? He even called for the use of certain fusion inhibitors. This bothered me for many reasons, but Gallaher's staunch advocacy for a natural origin was even stranger once the 1/12/22 Congressional letter was published. In it, Robert Garry was strongly in favor of a lab origin [in opposition to his public stance as a co-author of "Proximal Origin" & to his own mentor's arguments in "Deja Vu." Garry worked for 30 years under Gallaher at LSU."]:

This tells me that Garry didn't know that his mentor was building a natural origin narrative - certainly not at first. It also implies that Gallaher had talked to Dr. Fauci, or vice versa. 

But what does that have to do with Pradhan et al being withdrawn/retracted?

1/30/20 - Uncanny similarity of unique inserts in the 2019-nCoV spike protein to HIV-1 gp120 and Gag

Dr. Fauci knew that the specific HIV inserts served the purpose of making the virus more susceptible to fusion inhibitors. 

Even if Decroly et al are correct about the natural origins of the 1st 3 inserts, as argued here:

...they couldn't account for the last piece of the puzzle - a puzzle that makes SARS-CoV-2 susceptible to fusion inhibitors. Even if Dr. Dr. Fauci somehow didn't know about this functionality [which seems laughable], one of the authors of "Proximal Origin" did - Robert Garry, who worked with Bill Gallaher to invent the very first such inhibitor for SARS in 2003...

Bill Gallaher had previously discovered the fusion & entry peptide of HIV-1 in 1987.

Paved with Good Intentions

In 2003, right after the SARS genome was published, Gallaher & Garry published the model of the SARS spike, noting the similarities to HIV:

Further developments by Garry:

4/12/06 - Inhibition of SARS-CoV infectivity by peptides analogous to the viral spike protein

**Gallaher called for the use of such inhibitors in his monograph, but Dr. Fauci never followed this advice.

Why would he decline? Because calling attention to this vulnerability would naturally highlight the fact that the inserts were unnatural, which would make US grant support via NIH, USAID & DTRA linked to research that produced a potential pandemic pathogen [this was back when COVID-19 had killed a hundred people, not 6 million].

What other evidence supports this conclusion?

The DEFUSE documents, given to me last year, that DRASTIC leaked [with our own analysis] on 

9/20/21 - DRASTIC's Analysis of PREEMPT_HR00111880017

This highlighted EHA & the WIV's intent to insert human-specific furin cleavage sites into SARS-CoV's of concern.

The Chinese kept advancing the research in the area of fusion inhibitors:

4/12/19 - A pan-coronavirus fusion inhibitor targeting the HR1 domain of human coronavirus spike

The WIV magically discovered an even more potent inhibitor, EK1C4, and published it on 

3/30/20 - Inhibition of SARS-CoV-2 infection by a highly potent pan-coronavirus fusion inhibitor targeting its spike protein that harbors a high capacity to mediate membrane fusion

Some of the authors of the former paper collaborated with the WIV on the latter.

The WIV was also concurrently working on HIV vaccines, cancer therapies, etc. - which made them aware of developments in these areas. They knew, just as Gallaher had pointed out in 2003, that including enough of the HIV inserts to construct viable versions of gp120/gp41 sections that would allow them to use a peptide fusion inhibitor instantly to keep themselves safe. They'd even created an aerosol version, which is fortuitous since the standard intranasal spray would be less effective against SARS-CoV-2, which could attach to the lungs in far greater quantity due to the Furin cleavage site. Ralph Baric, as a frequent & direct collaborator with the NIAID's Vaccine Research Center & Moderna on CoV vaccine & therapeutic research, would also have been aware of such developments. 

No matter how the 1st 3 inserts got into the genome, the WIV wanted to add the rest [at the very least] to make their antidote, as you said. Whenever Dr. Fauci learned of the inserts, he knew the virus was manipulated. Unlike everyone else, he knew of DEFUSE, too, and the '16 & '18 GOF 'accidents' in which EcoHealth Alliance reported gains of function in experiments conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology [later discovered in FOIA documents received by The Intercept and White Coat Waste Project]. He didn't just know they had to have been added - he knew exactly WHY they were added.

I can conceive of no justifiable reason Dr. Fauci could conjure up that could justify the suppression of this information. It's hard to express the magnitude of the impact his decisions had upon our ability to understand and respond to this pandemic. He lied to the American people; he lied to the President of the United States, aided and abetted by the President’s own Science Advisor, Kelvin Droegemeier [I wrote of this last point a year ago, and the fact was later confirmed to me by Congressional investigators].

            I’ve spent the last two years trying to understand where this pandemic came from, and why. Several thousand hours of research have taught me that we should never, ever reject the idea of intelligent design.
